Next Generation ACA
The Next Generation ACA will create forward thinking leaders who are prepared for our changing world. With 14 business, finance and accountancy exams over three levels, the comprehensive and dynamic syllabus embeds sustainability, ethics and technology throughout. The exams develop technical knowledge from fundamental to advanced expertise, providing a robust foundation for future professionals. Here are some useful resources while you study.
Transitional exam arrangements
The role of the accountant is changing. To ensure you are prepared for the future, we are introducing changes to our qualifications.
Throughout 2025-2027, there will be a dual running period where existing exams will be phased out and Next Generation ACA exams will be introduced. The exams you are eligible to sit will depend on several factors, including which qualification you are studying, when you registered, the level of the exam and when you plan to sit it.

Before purchasing your learning materials, please check the transitional exam arrangements guidance to ensure you select the correct materials. If you are unsure which exams you should sit, please speak to your tuition provider, employer, or contact Student Support.
Renewals for Next Generation ACA
We are currently refreshing our qualifications. This includes introducing new exams to the ACA qualification during the transitional phase. Please be aware that during this time, our renewals policy for learning materials in 2027 is as follows:
Certificate and Professional Level exams
If you have the 2026 edition of the Next Generation ACA Certificate or Professional Level materials on your ICAEW Bookshelf, you’ll automatically receive the 2027 edition for free - whether you passed or not.
You will receive the full bundle as sold on the ICAEW Bookstore - including permitted texts - except the IFRS Blue Book. To request the updated IFRS Blue Book, contact your tuition provider. If you’re studying independently, please get in touch with ICAEW Student Support.

Advanced Level Exams
If you have learning materials on your ICAEW Bookshelf for an ACA Advanced Level exam but plan to sit a Next Generation ACA Advanced Level exam - Technical Case Study or Strategic Case Study - please be aware that you or whoever normally purchases your learning materials, will need to purchase new learning materials for the exam(s).
